Foxcroft vs. RMA

Foxcroft earns win and shutout with depleted roster.
The Foxcroft Varsity Soccer Team faced some unexpected challenges against our conference opponent, Randolph Macon, on Tuesday. Going into the game we were down four of our typical starters and almost everyone on the field had to play a different position or next to someone new. The team fought really hard and a lot of players had impressive performances.

Despite the formation shuffle Foxcroft was still able to have the lion's share of possession and had a plethora of scoring chances. The RMA goalie once again stood strong and kept the ball out of the net for the majority of the first half. Lily McCrehin broke the deadlock with an amazing goal where she curled the ball into the goal directly from a corner kick. Although it won't official be an assist, Emilia Gropper deserves recognition for doing her job and distracting the goalie during the play. Even with more scoring chances, the team carried a one goal lead into halftime.

At halftime the players made some adjustments and came out even stronger than they did in the first half. The team was able to keep the ball in the opponent's half of the field and created a plethora of scoring chances. Against any other goalie in our conference the team may have scored 6 goals, but we had to fight much harder against a great goaltender. Our main creative attacker was Bracha Warui who created chances for others as well as herself. The team hit the post several times but wasn't able to get our second goal. On another corner, an RMA player committed a foul and the team earned a PK. Lily slotted home the place kick to give us our second goal of the game. We would carry that lead for the remainder of the game to finish with a 2-0 victory.

There are several players that deserve special shoutouts for their performances in the game:
Lizema Cristovao not only started her first game, but played the full 80 minutes.
Chloe Jones has mastered her throw-ins and it turns out she is one of the best on the team.
Chiara Dellaccio earned another shutout on her impressive season.
Sara Warmack and Kyla Peterson were forced to play out of position in defense and locked down the other team.

The team is back in action against Highland on Thursday at home.
