Mission, Values, and Philosophy

Our Mission: To help every girl explore her unique voice and to develop the skills, confidence, and courage to share it with the world.

Our Promises

We live out our mission by providing our students with these promises.

UNIQUE LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM

Our learning goals and instructional practices are designed to support how girls learn best, with an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential curriculum. Personal attention and programs that acknowledge students’ many different interests, gifts, and learning styles help each girl discover the best way for her to learn at our school.

AN UNCOMMONLY BEAUTIFUL SETTING IN WHICH TO LEARN, GROW, AND THRIVE

An extraordinary natural resource, our magnificent 500-acre campus inspires discovery, creativity, and fun.

A RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY OF UNDERSTANDING HEARTS

At Foxcroft, you will be known and valued for who you are. Opportunities to lead and serve the community will teach responsibility and time management, strengthen empathy, and inspire you to make the world a better place.

A LIFETIME OF FRIENDSHIPS AND GLOBAL CONNECTIONS

Learning and living with girls from across the country and around the world, students at Foxcroft expand their worldview, practice empathy and understanding, and develop bonds of sisterhood that they cherish their whole lives. When they graduate, girls join a network of more than 3,000 alumnae around the globe.

Our Values

In 2015, student leaders came together to reaffirm the School's Core Values, which serve as guiding principles for our entire community:
Respect
Integrity
Kindness
Service

Our Educational Philosophy

List of 5 items.

  • How Girls Learn Best

Foxcroft’s program is intentionally designed for how girls learn best, which research shows, is through:
    • Context
    • Collaboration
    • Relationships
    • Strong affiliations
    • Solving real-world problems
  • Each Girl is Known and Valued

Our program responds to the individual learning and developmental needs of each young woman, meeting each girl where she is, and helping her achieve her utmost potential. Our approach:
    • Is student-centered
    • Provides unique learning experiences
    • Acknowledges different identities, interests, gifts, and learning styles
  • A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body

While academic endeavor is the School’s primary purpose, our philosophy is rooted in the School Motto: mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body). Our approach reflects this belief in the integral connection between a girl’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being and her academic success. We emphasize wellness through a research-based curriculum that is delivered in the classroom, in our residential program, and through an active and healthy lifestyle.
  • Respect, Integrity, Kindness, Service

Living together, students develop an appreciation for our values — respect, integrity, kindness, and service — and they have a voice in creating the community in which they study, live, and play. Student leaders:
    • Run Morning Meetings
    • Advise the administration
    • Uphold community standards
    • Plan student programs and weekend activities
    • Implement structure in the dorms
    • Provide peer support
    • Support various Foxcroft departments and offices as interns
    • Enrich our community by performing on stage, making music, creating art, and editing student publications
In keeping with Foxcroft’s longstanding tradition of giving back to the community through volunteerism, all students also participate in service learning projects.
  • Everything We Do is Curriculum

At Foxcroft, we seek opportunities to integrate learning in the classroom and learning for life. At the center of all we do, we hold this philosophy: Everything We Do is Curriculum. Through work and play, Foxcroft’s residential community:
    • Paves a path for academic, social, and interpersonal growth
    • Provides the stimulus for lifelong learning
    • Helps every girl explore her unique voice and develop the skills, confidence, and courage to share it with the world.

Our Honor Code

Foxcroft is a community built on trust. A Foxcroft girl is respectful to others and their property, dedicates herself to her academic pursuits, and models the School's expectations both on and off school grounds. Every student in the Foxcroft community is expected to be honest in her academic work and in her interactions with members of the community. Lying, cheating, or stealing, including plagiarism and the use of any false identities, violates our honor code, is considered prohibited conduct, and will result in disciplinary action.

Our Strategic Plan

Foxcroft School's 2020 Strategic Plan outlines four strategic priorities that support the inspiring vision we have laid out for our future.
