“The thing I love most about Foxcroft is being able to meet people from around the world and being able to have that special bond with someone.”
Our International Program
Our international program offers a terrific college preparatory education along with unforgettable life experiences. Our top-rated boarding prep school for girls in Virginia welcomes students from more than a dozen countries each year and instantly includes them as part of our friendly and diverse community. Each new international student is paired with an International Ambassador student mentor before she arrives, to help her adjust and find her lifelong friends. Students have fun weekend activities designed just for them, including regular trips to the international market to shop for foods that remind them of home. Our international students take full advantage of opportunities for service and leadership, participating as club heads, class officers, interns, or volunteers for local organizations.
Academically, our program is appropriate for students from an advanced level of English proficiency to those who are bilingual. Special English and history classes help those who need to improve their academic language skills. Our full-time Director of International Student Services supports girls in many aspects of their lives and when the time comes, our international students all do well in college acceptances and find that they are well prepared for college.
After living and teaching English abroad in Taiwan, Kate received her CELTA from the University of Cambridge before pursuing an MS.Ed in TESOL from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, she was awarded the Teresa Pica award for Excellence in TESOL and began her 7 year tenure teaching the TESOL Practicum course in the Graduate School of Education. She concurrently taught at Drexel University in their English Language Center as a Lead Gateway instructor for pre-matriculated international students and Academic Coordinator in special programs such as Fulbright, Panama Bilingue, and Chile Leading the Way. As a result of her work on SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) for Panama Bilingue, she was invited to present a teaching workshop for Panamanian EFL teachers at the annual conference in Panama City in 2017. She also co-authored an article on SIOP for a TESOL Dictionary which was published in 2018.
Kate comes to Foxcroft most recently from the University of Delaware’s Academic Transitions program where she designed and instructed ESL courses for pre-matriculated international freshman such as Textbook Reading & Discussion and Foundations of Academic Writing, as well as continued her ESL teaching methodology work with international English teachers from Panama and Brazil.
In her time outside the classroom, Kate enjoys salsa dancing, sampling various international cuisines, going out to breakfast with friends and family, getting outside, and watching musicals. She lives on campus in Dillon with her daughter, Maite, and their cat, Pete.
