Foxcroft vs. RMA

Foxcroft overcomes strong defensive shell to earn third straight victory and shutout
The Foxcroft Varsity Soccer Team got to play their second home game of the season when they took on Randolph Macon Academy on Friday night.

From the start of the game it was clear that RMA would be a strong defensive unit that had a lot of speed and an exceptional goalie. Foxcroft dominated in terms of possession and shots, but were unable to crack the scoreboard until Lily McCrehin placed a perfect shot into the side netting to give us a one goal advantage. Although we would continue to press and have many scoring opportunities, we went to the halftime break sitting with a 1-0 lead.

After halftime Foxcroft continued to have the lion's share of the ball. Again, despite having the ball in the opponent's half for the majority of play it was tough to score against a goalie that seemed to be everywhere at once. Halfway through the half, Lily played a corner that was expertly finished first time by Bracha Warui giving us a two goal lead that would last until the end of the game.

Despite only scoring two goals, the Foxcroft offense put on a great display of exceptional passing and perfectly timed runs. Kyla Peterson and Margaret Pitt terrorized the opposing team by making runs down the sideline and getting crosses into the box. Sara Warmack, Ava Rudy, and Emilia Gropper also had scoring chances created by great passes and quick runs.

On the defensive side of the ball our defenders were able to stifle an attack that sent three forwards at us, which hasn't happened yet this season. Maddie Kaplan, Sarah Ford, and ZoraNelle Broussard were able to corral the opponents even though sometimes they were attacking 5 versus 3. Chiara Dellaccio earned another shutout in goal.

Foxcroft will have another home game against Evergreen Christian this Tuesday at 4:00. We hope to see you there!
