Foxcroft vs. Quantico

Foxcroft uses another strong second half to come out with win against Quantico.
The Foxcroft Varsity Soccer team was back in action on Tuesday in an away game against Quantico. Despite the fierce rain on the drive over, the team arrived ready to play and the weather was nice enough to clear up for kickoff.

Foxcroft got out on the front foot and had lots of great scoring opportunities early in the game. Kyla Peterson and Margaret Pitt were able to create chaos in the opponents box by delivering plenty of great crosses. Despite the pressure, Foxcroft could not break through with a goal. Halfway through the half Foxcroft earned a free kick about 30 yards from the goal. Lily McCrehin lofted a strong shot towards the back post of the goal and got Foxcroft on the board. The score remained 1-0 as the halftime whistle blew.

Coming out in the second half Foxcroft continued their offensive pressure. The team had plenty of good scoring opportunities. Ten minutes into the half Lily took another strong shot from outside the box and it trickled past the goalkeeper to give the team a two goal lead. A few minutes later Sara Warmack got the ball at midfield and ran by everyone on the opposing team before slotting the ball into the corner of the goal to increase our lead. The team continued to send dangerous balls into the box and it payed off when Emilia Gropper was able to poke home her first goal of the season during a scramble in front of the goal. Lily capped off a stellar performance by scoring one more goal towards the end of the half to earn a hat trick.

On the defensive side of the ball our defense led by Sarah Ford, Maddie Kaplan, and ZoraNelle Broussard held Quantico to very few attacking chances. Chiara Dellaccio earned another shutout for the team and made two great saves to keep the opponent off the board.

The Foxcroft Varsity Soccer Team will be back in action with a home game against RMA this Friday.
