What a Wintermission!
Last Friday saw the completion of another invigorating and engaging Wintermission term. Diving enthusiastically into new experiences, there was a more playful and relaxed feeling around campus during Wintermission as the girls explored new topics. Based on their reflections, many were impressed and even a bit surprised by what they learned.
From internships — “I learned about different types of businesses, how to make purchases, and the retail industry” — to relaxation and wellness — “I had a lot of fun crocheting and doing wellness activities” — to service — “My favorite [Service Sampler] project was Seven Loaves because I got to meet the families that I was helping and see the impact I was having on them, instead of just hoping that I was making a difference” — each girl seemed to find value in her experiences.
As one student wrote in a reflection that seemed to sum up the week, “I learned so much about our world and basic life skills.” Many student comments about Wintermission reflected an appreciation for the freedom to pursue things that interested them and the ability to work at their own pace. They also enjoyed the hands-on nature of the courses offered, the value of collaborating with others, and problem-solving on their own, all of which seemed to result in heightened feelings of engagement and personal accomplishment.
