Foxcroft’s 13th Annual STEM Challenge Coming on February 24!

Foxcroft will host up to 40 teams of girls on Saturday, February 24, as they compete in the “Powered by STEAM” STEM Challenge. Designed for middle and high school students, the competition will see girls from Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC, using their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math to participate in challenges around helping a group of scientists who were transported back in time and need to use the technology available to figure out how to return home.
Working in teams of four, the girls will rotate through challenges in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and more. A winner will be chosen for each challenge, as well as an overall winning team. In addition, students can answer trivia questions to earn raffle tickets and compete for prizes ranging from gift cards to tech devices. Architects, designers, and construction team members from event sponsors Hord Coplan Macht and Coakley Williams, who are designing and building Foxcroft’s new Mars STEAM Wing and leading Foxcroft’s Project STEAM Build Seminar, will host one challenge, and Foxcroft’s outstanding STEM faculty have created the others.

High school students may also attend a post-event career panel with architects, designers, and construction team members from Hord Coplan Macht and Coakley Williams sharing their career paths. Middle school parents and visitors are invited to an informal roundtable featuring Foxcroft Head of School Cathy McGehee, who will explore ways of supporting girls in STEM.

The high school competition begins at 8:30am in Foxcroft’s Athletic/Student Center with visiting teams from several schools. The middle school division will compete in the afternoon.
