Robotics Team Competes in FIRST Tech Challenge

Last Sunday, the Foxcroft Robotics team traveled to Harrisonburg, VA, to participate in their first event of the season. Foxcroft competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge, which provides a framework for students to develop their design, building, and coding skills. Several team members took an Independent Study in Robotics in the Fall semester, and some also met three days a week during athletic practice time. While their coach Mr. Northrup was present, the students worked independently to solve the challenges presented to them by the competition.
The FIRST Tech Challenge is designed to be cooperative. Each of the 48 rounds of the competition consists of four student robots organized into two “teams,” trying to earn the most points. So, while there were over 40 different teams at the event, Foxcroft was always paired with another school group. “Other teams really wanted to help us out,” said Emili R. ’24, who worked with the other teams allied with Foxcroft in competition rounds.

Foxcroft’s young robotics team continues to grow in skill and experience. First-timers to the competition included Wawa S. ‘25, Tabitha H. ‘27, and Atufah K. ‘27. “I want to take this team all the way to the World Championship!” shared Atufah. The team is particularly thankful for the work of graduating seniors Emmy Q., Elizabeth V., and Emili, who helped found the team two years ago and leave behind a repository of building plans, code, and experience. We will be looking for new team members interested in learning STEM skills and having fun!
