Fox/Hound Field Hockey Goes to the Foxes!

An enthusiastic crowd braved the chilly but sunny weather on Saturday, November 18, to cheer from the sidelines of Turf Field for the Foxes and Hounds in a beloved tradition that includes a bit of pomp and spectacle and a lot of friendly rivalry.
The cheering was loud and proud on both sides, and both teams played with great heart and skill. Flora W. ’25 was the first to score in the game, giving the Hounds a 1-0 lead in the first half. Coming back strong in the second half, Captains Sarah B. ’25 and Margaret P. ’25 led the Foxes to a 3-1 Big Game victory, with goals from Cece Y. ’27, Grace P. ’24, and a penalty stroke scored by Ava P. ’26 in the final seconds of the game. Congratulations, Foxes!

The day’s festivities started when the Middleburg Hunt was welcomed at Covert with hot cider and biscuits before setting off. New Girl Runnings followed, and as legend foretells, predicted the Big Game win when Fox Esme D. ’27 was the first to touch the top of the gazebo! Friday’s Little Game ended with a 0-0 draw.

For more than a century, the tradition of Fox/Hound has been an integral and cherished part of Foxcroft, as evidenced by the number of students, parents, alumnae, and parents of alumnae who came to cheer dressed in their team colors and donning their buttons. While the Foxes ultimately were victorious as the final whistle blew at Big Game, the spirit of "true friends ’til the end" prevailed with celebrations for both teams — and plenty of friendship and healthy competition.
