Out and About with the Foxcroft Riders

From Director of Riding Kate Worsham

After many months of patiently following COVID-19 protocols and diligently being mindful of how to keep the campus and the dorms safe, nine of the Foxcroft riders were very excited to attend a one-day horse show in Leesburg, VA, at the end of May. As part of the Morven Park Summer Show Series, this competition allowed the riders a chance to get back in horse show mode after some quiet time working on their skills at home.
Clearly, this time spent focusing on the basics as well as learning new techniques paid off as the girls and the horses earned six tri-colors on Saturday, May 22, in the hunter and jumper rings. These honors went to:
  • Caroline Adams from Oakleigh Farm (riding for Lexi H. ’23) & Socrates — Schooling Hunter Reserve Champion
  • Sydney M. ’23 & Prince Harry — Working Hunter Reserve Champion
  • Chloe M. ’21 & Dream Away — .80m Jumper Reserve Champion
  • Cecilia M. ’22 & Cimarron — .85m Jumper Reserve Champion
  • Vivian D. ’22 & Commander's Shooting Star — .90m Jumper Champion
  • Cecilia M. ’22 & Stryker — 1.0m Child/Adult Jumper Reserve Champion
Additional highlights included some great ribbons and excellent riding for many new show ring partnerships including Irene B. ’24 & Pablo with first and second place finishes in their jumper classes, two thirds and a fifth for Brin B. ’24 and Caspian 4 in her jumper division and just out of the ribbons, but awesome efforts from Sierra J. ’22 with Just a Minute, Lexi H. ’23 with Socrates, and Sage W. ’23 with RH Factor. All of the Foxcroft trainers were so proud of the girls for showcasing what they have been working on at home and adding some ribbon bling to the Foxcroft show banner.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions have decreased and the academic year is complete, the horse show schedule begins in earnest with another Morven Park Summer Series show Saturday, June 5, followed by a week at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show (June 7-13) and a week at the Loudoun Benefit Horse Show (June 16-20). The calendar for July and August is already filled with more Morven Park dates as well as some travel to the Virginia Horse Center. The riding crew is looking forward to representing Foxcroft at a variety of venues this summer. Please stay tuned for our next installment of "Out and About with the Foxcroft Riders."
