Sarah F. ’24 and History Teacher Erika Page Speak during NCGS Webinar

Last Thursday, Sarah F. ’24 and History teacher Erika Page spoke during a National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) webinar. Both were invited to talk about their experiences participating in the Empowering Female Voices (EFV) program — a six-part online workshop focused on civic engagement and the issues shaping the 2020 presidential election. Nine Foxcroft students engaged in the various workshop sessions and afterward participated in debriefings with History teachers John Scharfenberg and Erika Page.
When asked about her role in the webinar, Sarah offered this reflection: “The experience I had presenting my thoughts to the group was phenomenal, because I was talking about what I am passionate about and what I want to make a change in. It was even better that I got to share my thoughts as a representative of Foxcroft School because I am proud of my school and want to reflect well on it.”

The feeling of pride is reciprocal. “I get choked up whenever I hear my students speak,” shared Ms. Page. “I know how brilliant they are in the classroom, and I'm really proud when I get to hear them speak so confidently to an international audience (we had an Australian participant, which was not something I anticipated)! I also really enjoyed participating in the webinar because I got to brag about Foxcroft's proactive approach to the election.”

While the EFV program and NCGS webinar have wrapped up, it’s clear that they ignited something in Sarah. “After all of the deliberations I had during the EFV program,” she concluded,” it was great to get the opportunity to share my thoughts outside of that community and start to make a change in the world, even if it is just a small one.”

Next up, Olivia W. ’23 will also “use her voice for good” (on trend with our theme for the school year) and share her thoughts on participating in the EFV program at the Women and Politics Forum tonight, December 10.
