Four Individual Foxcroft Riders and Team Qualify for Zones!

A total of four individual riders, in addition to the Foxcroft Riding Team, qualified for the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Hunt Seat Zone 3 competition to be held at Liberty University Equestrian Center in Rustburg, VA, February 28-March 1.
Individual riders Cecilia M. ’22 (Varsity Intermediate on the Flat) and Gigi G. ’22 (Varsity Intermediate Over Fences) each seized first place in their respective events to qualify for Zone 3 Finals. Cecilia also took second in Varsity Intermediate Over Fences to qualify for Zone competition in that class. Elena B. ’20 took second place in Varsity Open Equitation Over Fences but will stay in Florida to finish competing at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) and Lexi H. ’23 brought home third in Varsity Intermediate Over Fences, allowing her to compete in Zones in place of Gigi who will also stay at WEF.

In the IEA team competition, coaches select just one rider to compete in each of the seven classes. Coaches Allie Pelz and Kendall Bear chose well in putting together Saturday’s lineup, with three of the seven riders capturing first, one rider bringing home second and two riders placing fourth in their respective events to take Reserve Champion and, for the second year in a row, qualify the team for Zone Finals.

The Zone 3 Finals will include riders from Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The top two finishers will advance to the National Finals, in Los Angeles, CA, April 17-19. Foxcroft won Zones in 2014 when it made its only appearance as a team at Nationals.
