The Foxcroft volleyball squad traveled to Front Royal this evening to avenge a September loss to Randolph-Macon Academy (RMA), and they did just that in exciting fashion. The traveling team came out swinging, putting 6 points on the board in the opening service rotation behind the hard drives of Eva C.'24. Foxcroft took a large early lead at 14-4, and they eventually won the first set 25-15. RMA regrouped in the second set, and their star middle blocker racked up 9 service points to power the Yellow Jackets to a 21-25 victory. The third set was a back-and-forth affair, and Foxcroft took an early 10-7 lead behind the net-scraping serves of senior captain Elizabeth S. They increases the lead to 17-10, but RMA hammered away and took the lead at 23-24. The Yellow Jackets were then penalized for an illegal substitution, which gave Foxcroft the point and the serve. Cassie C.'22 took over from the service line and helped the team to a 26-24 win in the third set.
The fourth set was just as heated. Elizabeth S. placed 6 service point in the set, which helped Foxcroft step ahead 20-13. RMA refused to go down easily, and they came close to forcing a fifth set at 24-25. Foxcroft forced a side-out against one of the Yellow Jackets' best servers, and Ashleigh H. '23 put the match away with two service points to win the set 27-25.
It was a great performance all around in an emotional win. Ashleigh H. had several outstanding digs from the libero position. Kat W. '23 had several key blocks that forced RMA to change its game plan, and Maya K. '24 had an excellent night at middle blocker as well. Cassie C. found her groove from the right side and the service line; she earned 12 service points, including 3 aces. Elizabeth S. had an amazing 19 service points and 7 aces.
Foxcroft's next match will be on Tuesday, 26 Oct, at 4:00 p.m. against conference leader Wakefield at home. Foxcroft families are welcome to attend in accordance with Covid protocols.
