Six Students Earn National Latin Exam Honors!

The foreign language accolades continue! Six Foxcroft students have been recognized for achieving excellence on the National Latin Exam (NLE), Latin teacher Eric Dombrowski shared this week.

Lindsay W. '17 of Latin IV Prose and Pradyuta P. '18 of Latin III were both honored with Gold Summa Cum Laude awards for scoring 35 and 33 respectively out of 40 on the exam. Grace M. '19 continues the tradition of Latin aptitude in her family after her sisters Charlotte '12 and Lily '14, earning Silver Maxima Cum Laude with a score of 30 on the Latin III exam. Three students -- Aria D. '19 (Latin I), Sophia D. '16 (Latin I) and Jasmine M. '16 (Latin II) -- achieved Magna Cum Laude honors by scoring in the 30-32 range.
Across all 50 states in the US and 19 foreign countries, 154,000 students took the National Latin Exam this year, and only 32% of those were recognized with awards. In Virginia alone, over 10,300 students took the exam, with 9% earning Summa, 11% Maxima and 9% Magna.

The National Latin Exam, which tests students' comprehension in Latin grammar, culture and reading, is offered under the joint scholarship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.

Well done to the scholars and their teacher!
