Shannon '07 named National Achievement Scholar

cw
Director of College Counseling Paul Horgan announced Monday that Shannon '07 has been selected as the winner of a National Achievement Scholarship, awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Shannon competed against more than 140,000 students who took the 2005 PSAT/NMSQT and requested consideration for the 2007 National Achievement Scholarship Program, a privately financed academic competition established in 1964 specifically to honor scholastically talented Black American youth.

Of those 140,000 students, approximately 1,600 were named semifinalists last September. Shannon then completed a rigorous application process to advance to the finalist stage, along with about 1,300 others nationwide.

The 800 scholarship winners then were selected for having “the strongest record of accomplishments and greatest potential for academic success in college.” Shannon will receive $2,500 towards her college education.
