The banner crop of individuals being honored for their scholarship, integrity, and intellectual curiosity includes six members of the Senior Class and three juniors. “We had an extremely strong group of students eligible this year,” said Erba.
The seniors are Emma A. of Middleburg, VA, Lexi L. (Shanghai, China), Jeanete P. (Bronx, NY), Caroline Q. (Middleburg), Catherine R. (Round Hill, VA), and Olivia S. (Passaic, NJ). They join two classmates elected as juniors: Rebecca M. of Hamilton, VA, and Miranda R. of Purcellville, VA.
From a very strong Junior Class, three girls were selected this year. They are Lydia B. of Leesburg, VA; Kate E. (Middleburg) and Lilly M. (Bluemont, VA).
In addition, History Department Chair Courtney Ulmer and Athletic Director Michelle Woodruff were elected to the Foxcroft chapter. Woodruff had previously earned Cum Laude membership as a student at St. James School; Ulmer was selected based on her extraordinary contributions to the intellectual and academic life of the School.
The Foxcroft Chapter, founded in 1958, is one of more than 380 Cum Laude Society chapters located mostly at independent schools in the United States. Erba, who chairs the Mathematics Department at Foxcroft School, said that only students who evidence a genuine interest in the pursuit of knowledge, exhibit outstanding academic integrity, and have superior academic records as reflected in their course load, grade point average, and other factors, are selected for induction.
Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer, Academic Dean Alexander Northrup and faculty members Lindsey Bowser, Stephen Matthews, and Matthew Mohler will join Erba in conferring the honors on the newest group of academic stars at the official induction, which will take place at Foxcroft’s Commencement in May.
