Junior Class Walkathon to Benefit the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter

Join the fight! Donate to Foxcroft’s Junior Class Walkathon

Each year, Foxcroft’s Junior Class organizes a walkathon to benefit a charity of its choosing. This year is no exception: The Class of 2016 will hold its walkathon to benefit the Loudoun Abused Women Shelter on Friday, March 27.

The event, however, will be a little different. It will be more colorful, both figuratively and literally.

Instead of taking a leisurely stroll up and down the rolling hills on campus and nearby, participants -- Foxcroft students, faculty and staff only -- will follow the cross-country course on campus. At several stations along the way, they will be sprayed with colored powder and arrive at the finish line looking a bit like a rainbow!

The color sprays are made of a harmless substance and will wash off easily but not before they have added a lot of fun to the decades-old Junior Class Walkathon tradition. Can't you just hear the laughter now?

LAWS, the beneficiary of all this activity, however, is no laughing matter. The nonprofit, also known as Citizens for Social Justice, works with adult and child victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse in Loudoun County.

The 50+ members of the the Class of 2016 chose to raise awareness and money for LAWS, Class President Lilly S. said, because "our school is founded on the belief that women's empowerment and equality is an important principle to be recognized and supported."

The Leesburg-based organization's mission to “serve adults and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; to empower, inform and advocate for adults and children; to educate the community about domestic violence and sexual assault and to work towards the elimination of personal and societal violence.”

Although the walkathon is restricted to Foxcroft community, all are invited to support this important cause by sponsoring a student or simply making a donation. Contributions of any size are appreciated and may be made by check or by credit card.

Please make checks out to the Loudoun Abused Womens Shelter (LAWS) and mail them to Junior Class Wallkathon 2016; Foxcroft School; P.O. Box 5555; Middleburg, VA 20118, or give them to members of the Class of 2016.
