Foxcroft wins the Third Annual FIT For Lacrosse championship

Led by co-captains and scoring aces Ashton '10 and Dish '10, Foxcroft Varisty Lacrosse Team won the third annual Foxcroft Invitational Tournament For Lacrosse Tournament Saturday with wins over Wakefield School and Paul VI High School (Fairfax). The tournament hosts, who also won the inaugural FIT title in 2008, cruised past Wakefield School (The Plains, VA) 15-7 in the first game and downed Paul VI High (Fairfax, VA) in the championship game.

Foxcroft is 7-1 on the season, with the only loss coming at the hands of Delaney Athletic Conference rival Highland School.

Norfolk Collegiate, which fell to Paul VI 10-5 in the morning, defeated Wakefield in the consolation final.

In the championship game, played before an enthusiastic crowd, Foxcroft jumped to a quick 4-0 lead over Paul VI and looked to be in complete control. The visitors rallied, though, narrowing the deficit to just one goal, 7-6, one minute into the second half. Foxcroft's Olivia Jane '13 then scored two consecutive goals on free positions awarded after she was fouled, but PVI responded with two quick goals of its own.

The score stood at 9-8 when Dish, who will play at Division I Denver next year, went to work. The speedy midfielder scored twice within a minute and, after PVI got one back, scored an unassisted goal for a 12-9 Foxcroft advantage. Ashton, bound for Christopher Newport University, added two more goals for a four-point edge that pretty much sealed the deal.
