Juniors Sofia T. and Lindsay W. Selected to Prestigious Governor's Schools

Congratulations to juniors Sofia T. and Lindsay W. for being chosen to attend Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools, highly selective institutes for gifted students held at university campuses!

Sofia will participate in the Governor’s School for Mathematics, Science and Technology at Lynchburg College July 3-30. Lindsay will attend the Governor’s School for the Humanities from June 26-July 23 at Radford University.
Sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education, Summer Residential Governor’s Schools provide gifted high school juniors and seniors with intensive educational experiences in various subjects. Students live on a college campus for up to four weeks and are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, group projects and seminars with noted scholars and other professionals.

Nominations are limited to one student per school for each Governor's school and selection is highly competitive. Sofia is one of approximately 160 students statewide selected to attend the Math, Science and Technology School while Lindsay is among fewer than 200 students chosen for the Humanities program.

“We are extremely proud of both Lindsay and Sofia,” said Academic Dean Courtney Ulmer.
