Virginia's Annual Lily Show at Foxcroft in 2015 and 2016

The Garden Club of Virginia's Annual Lily Show, which draws exhibitors from all over the commonwealth, will be held at Foxcroft School for the next two years, Foxcroft Business Manager Deborah Anderson announced Thursday.

The Fauquier and Loudoun Garden Club is hosting the show, which is sanctioned by the North American Lily Society, on June 17-18, 2015 and June 15-12, 2016. Lucy Rhame of the The Plains and Alexandria is chair of the event, whose 2015 theme is "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!"
"We are so excited about the facility and we are so excited to be at Foxcroft," said Rhame, noting that Foxcroft's handsome Athletic/Student Center offers the workrooms, exhibition space and other meeting rooms necesssary for the show. "It's wonderful."

It's also a homecoming of sorts as Foxcroft's founder, Charlotte Haxall Noland, was one of the founding members of the Fauquier and Loudoun Garden Club. Nearly a century ago, during World War I, she organized the Club’s "Land Army." With so many men fighting overseas, local farmers needed help planting and harvesting their crops. Miss Charlotte and her committee recruited more than 200 women and girls -- including some Foxcroft students -- to pick peaches, apples, and other produce.

The Fauquier and Loudoun Club is one of 48 in Virginia, all of which will participate in the show. Non-members may also exhibit, vying for awards in myriad categories. The show is open to the public as well. Rhame says organizers hope to hold a reception one evening to attract more guests. "We want as many people as we can get to come enjoy this event," she said. For a look at the most recent show, held in Harrisonburg, click here
