This winter season marks the ninth year that the Foxcroft riding program has provided an opportunity for riders to live in Wellington, FL, for a portion of the winter and compete at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Since the first week of January, five riders have been realizing their goal of showing at one of the most competitive venues in the country under the tutelage of the Foxcroft riding program staff. The students have been learning a great deal in the saddle, mastering horsemanship skills in the barn, and gaining practical life skills such as grocery shopping, cooking, and managing their academic and tutoring schedules.

At the halfway point of the program, the riders have already adorned the Foxcroft show set up with ribbons of every color. In divisions ranging from the .80 meter Jumpers to the High Children’s Jumpers, the riders have been piloting their horses to many clean rounds and doing so in style.
Highlights thus far include Valeska F. ’26 steering Foxcroft’s Cappuccino Ice, aka Chino, to the Championship in the .80 meter Training Ch/Ad Jumpers during week 3, and then also winning a class on a weekly lease horse, Cassano, during week 4 in the same division. This week Valeska is excited to move up to the .90 meter classes and try her hand at some bigger fences with Chino.
Chiara D. ’25 rode her horse, Chellimo, aka Chilli, to strong finishes in the .90 meter classes in preparation to move into the Low Children’s classes, where she also put in solid rounds and earned a 7th place during week 3. This is a new partnership for Chiara, and everyone is excited about their future in the jumper ring. Also in the Low Children’s Jumper division, senior Sage W. and her newly leased horse, Ferrari, cruised around and picked up numerous top three placings in the regular classes and, most recently, a 7th place finish in the Classic week 4.
Rounding out the group are the High Children’s Jumper riders, Irene B. ’24 and Pablo, and Cierra C. ’25 and Generosa MK, aka Jenny, all of whom have done an excellent job navigating some huge arena spaces and some extremely technical tracks. A shout out to Cierra for the win in the High Children’s Jumper Classic during week 2, which also helped her clinch the Reserve Championship for the division.
With four weeks left to show before the riders depart from the sunshine state in early March, we are sure to have more fun news to share!
