IEA Team Opens its Season at Home This Sunday

Foxcroft’s Riding Team opens its Interscholastic Equestrian Association season this Sunday, October 9, when McConnell Stables hosts its first “home” horse show of the year. Competition begins at 10am with the Varsity Open over fences class and should run throughout the day, finishing with the Junior Varsity Beginner classes.

Follow along with all the excitement as freshmen Sally E. and Jojo M. “take over” our student-driven Instagram account, fxc.takeover, from the show! You can also follow Director of Riding Kate Worsham on Twitter (@KateWorshamFXC) for a fun and dynamic perspective of Foxcroft’s riding program.
The IEA is the largest scholastic riding organization in the country with more than 5,000 student riders competing on hundreds of teams in 12 zones across North America. Riders randomly pick horses, also known as “catch riding,” in flat and over fences classes at several levels and accumulate points at local meets in order to qualify for Regional, Zone and then National shows. Last year, Saylor H. ‘18 advanced as an individual to IEA National Finals, and the team showed well through IEA Zones. With a strong team, consisting of 20 riders, Foxcroft will be looking to advance the team as well as a number of individual riders to the Finals competitions this year.

This first IEA competition will showcase the skills of freshmen Elena B., Sally E., Emma L., Jojo M., Nell N., and Marina V.; sophomores Eliza F., Madeline J., Kayla L., Clair N., and Lizzie S.; juniors Saylor H., Cici J., Anna N., Ellie S., and Lily Y.; and seniors Reilly C., Gentry E-S., Guen G., and Morgan R. Volunteers will be helping with the course and the horses.

Various riders will represent Foxcroft and try to qualify as individuals as well at future meets. Confirmed competitions to date are October 29 and January 28 at Madeira School, October 30 at Pickwick/Clayhill, November 5 at Stone Gate, November 6 at Foxcroft, November 12 at Cavallo. Regional Finals will be held on February 18-19 and Zone Finals on March 4-5.

Madeira, Meadowbrook Stables, and Stone Gate Stable are bringing teams that will be competing against Foxcroft this weekend. Katrina Weinig of Washington, DC, will be the judge.

The show is open to all at no charge -- we hope you’ll come and support our team!
