Foxcroft's Solar Initiative is Online!

Follow Foxcroft's power production here!

Last semester the students in Dr. Maria Eagen's Explorations in Engineering I class investigated the potential for implementing solar panels on campus and came up with a proposal to install four test panels. In January those panels were installed near the Observatory, and this week an online feed reporting the power production of those panels went live. Check it out!

Each of the four panels independently sends information to the Foxcroft website about how much energy they are generating. The panels will be used by the science classes for experimentation on tilt angles, cleaning schedules, and the like.

Bringing solar power to Foxcroft was spearheaded by seniors Charlotte W., Maeve C., and Sydney R.G., the team leaders for the solar project. They presented the Engineering Class's findings to the administration in November. The proposal was approved and the panel installation ordered. When the Board of Trustees met in January, these girls again presented their finding and and answered questions about the potential of solar power on campus.

Dr. Eagen's Engineering Class will monitor the performance of the panels and make another proposal for how and when Foxcroft might grow its solar power production. Stay tuned!
