Foxcroft Hosts Conference Cross Country Championship and Tennis Semifinal; Field Hockey Headed to Title Game at FA

Foxcroft’s campus will be bustling with athletic competition Thursday when the School hosts the Delaney Athletic Conference (DAC) Cross Country Championships and its tennis team, ranked 5th in the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA), meets Highland School in a DAC semifinal match.

In addition, Foxcroft’s No. 3-ranked field hockey team meets No. 2 Fredericksburg Academy for the DAC championship in Fredericksburg.
Foxcroft is hosting the DAC Cross Country Championships for the first time in eight years and will greet runners from 11 schools in boys and girls divisions.

The competition begins at 3:30pm when the boys compete over the 5-kilometer course, which has been redesigned this year because of the construction of the new turf fields. The girls will get started 30 minutes later.

Eight Foxcroft runners will run in the competition, but only the four best times will be counted toward the squad’s total to the team competition. A runner must finish among the top 16 in each division in order to earn All-DAC honors. Sophomore McKenna O. and senior Jenna T. lead the way for Foxcroft’s runners, all of whom have continued to better their times over the course of the season.

Seniors Holland D., Lily F., Sarah E., and Roxie C. will lead Tennis (11-2) against Highland in its semifinal match, beginning at 3pm. Another key senior, Amanda C., is out for the season, but freshman Gigi G. and junior Maddy W. round out a strong lineup. Foxcroft defeated Highland twice during the regular season, by scores of 7-2 and 6-3.

Field hockey (9-3) defeated John Paul the Great, 4-0, in Tuesday’s semifinal game, setting up a showdown with Fredericksburg Academy for the DAC title Thursday. It is the ninth year in a row that the two teams have met in the DAC Championship game. During the regular season, the teams split a pair of games, with Foxcroft winning 4-0 at Fredericksburg and losing 3-2 in overtime at Evergreen Sportsplex.

The season ended for volleyball on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss (7-25, 8-25, 20-25) to Highland in a first-round match played in Warrenton.
