Put on Your Pink Sunday (Oct. 14) and Come Support the Fight against Breast Cancer

Foxcroft will host the 13th Annual Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Walk, Run and Pooch Prance

The Foxcroft School community is excited to host the 13th annual Cherry Blossom Walk, Run, and Pooch Prance for Breast Cancer on Sunday, when the all-girls boarding and day college prep school opens its beautiful 500-acre campus to the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation (CBBCF) for its major fundraiser.
Hundreds of participants, including the entire Foxcroft student body, participate annually in this spirited event, which raises thousands of dollars to help area women diagnosed with breast cancer. Advance registration is encouraged and is available on the Foundation's website. Onsite registration Sunday opens at 12 noon with the walk/run scheduled to begin at 1pm.

Foxcroft STEM teacher and cross-country coach Matt Mohler, named a Cherry Blossom Champion by the Foundation last spring for his contributions, will once again organize the 5K run, which follows much of the School's scenic and wooded cross-country course. The race is timed and identifies winners in a number of age and gender divisions. The walking route will follow flat school roads past historic buildings, stables, and horse paddocks.

The competition for best-dressed pooch is another highlight of the day, with pink-bedecked dogs of all shapes and sizes competing. In addition, the School’s Cooking Club, headed by seniors Bella B., Carsyn B, and Jordan W., will hold a bake sale to benefit the CBBCF. Two Foxcroft students, senior Holland D. and junior Louise W., sit on the CBBCF Board, and have been building excitement on campus. Head of School Cathy McGehee and Athletic Director Michelle Woodruff are also Board members.

Originally named Nanette's Walk after beloved community member (and Holland's grandmother), the walk was held at the Middleburg Bank and Hill School from 2007 through 2012, with Foxcroft students always comprising the largest contingent of participants. It moved to the Foxcroft campus in 2013, when the School kicked off its Centennial Celebration with a worldwide Day of Service. The Cherry Blossom Walk was the day's flagship event and has been a Foxcroft fall favorite ever since.

In the past decade, the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation has granted almost $750,000 to relevant Fauquier and Loudoun County nonprofits and to regional breast cancer research institutions to support local women and families affected by the disease as well as to advance the search for a cure.
