Hyeri W. ’18’s Dream Becomes a Permanent Student Art Collection Reality

Fine Arts Department Chair Karin Thorndike and Head of School Cathy McGehee unveiled the latest addition to Foxcroft’s Permanent Student Art Collection Wednesday at Morning Meeting when they presented a captivating painting by Hyeri W. ’18.

Hyeri’s painting, titled “Balloon: Unreached Dream,” was recognized last year in the prestigious Scholastic Arts and Writing Contest with a National Silver Medal.
During Wednesday’s presentation, Ms. Thorndike reflected on the history of the Permanent Art Collection, which was started by former Fine Arts teacher Gary Cox. For 17 years students have been selected to contribute to the collection, and while Mr. Cox retired last year, it will continue on as his legacy and a testament to the artistic talent within our student body.

Next time you are in Schoolhouse, take a look around the lobby outside the Office of College Counseling to see the impressive works of pottery, photography, paintings, and drawings that have been placed in the Permanent Student Art Collection since the tradition began.
