Foxcroft Riding Camp Raises the Bar for Young Riders

Lilly R. waits patiently on the sideline of Foxcroft’s expansive indoor riding arena as another student takes instruction from the School’s trainer, Assistant Director of Riding Kendall Bear. Attending Foxcroft’s summer riding camp, the petite eighth grader is beaming with enthusiasm about her experience as a foxhunter. “I’ve been doing it since I was four years old,” she says. Alongside her mother Amy, who graduated from Foxcroft School in 1989, the two have formed a strong bond over horses and their mutual passion for foxhunting.
Lilly has put in plenty of time training to be the best at what she loves the most, and attending this summer’s camp has her feeling rejuvenated. “Everyone is so nice. If I miss a detail or don’t do something right, they help me figure out what to do different the next time.”

Having a smaller group of campers is also a major benefit, as the girls are able to learn from each other and make new friends, too. “I didn’t know anyone here before coming, but it just feels so great.”

For the week that she’ll spend at Foxcroft’s riding camp, Lilly is focused on something that will help her far beyond the time spent riding here. She admits that it takes her a while to warm up to a horse at times, and she’s hoping to change that. “My goal is to get to the point where I’m comfortable from the time I sit on the saddle.” We think it’s going to be a great week for her and all of the campers.
