International Week is Here!

Foxcroft’s promise of a lifetime of friendships and global connections is rarely more evident than during International Week, which began on Monday. Organized by the Global Cultures Club, the week is a special celebration of the rich tapestry and diverse talents of the multicultural community we enjoy year-round at Foxcroft.

At Morning Meetings throughout the week, the community has been greeted in a dozen different languages, learned about Switzerland (Joëlle F. ’19's home country), and heard the intriguing Native American story of the dog and the wolf (from Carolina W. '17). In the Dining Hall, we've had delicious meals featuring cuisines from around the globe — yum!
All the members of the community — which includes students from 13 foreign countries and countless ethnic origins — are invited to share aspects of their family heritage, their native country, or a country they have lived in, visited, or just love!

Perhaps the most popular aspect of the week is the dinnertime tour of a variety of ethnic meals. Monday evening featured a Japanese feast which Sakiko I. ’18 organized and prepared with help from Bella B. ’19, Sumi L. ’18, Hyeri W. ’18, Ms. Woodruff, Ms. Boswell and, of course, our wonderful Kitchen staff. Tuesday we had a taste of India. Joëlle F. ’19 and friends are working with our Dining Hall Directors Sandy Freeman and Brennan Kirby to create a Swiss-German dinner on Thursday, and Sumi L. ’18 and friends will transport us to Korea on Friday.

The International Gala, presented in FoxHound Auditorium on Friday at 7:00 pm, will showcase musical and dance performances, multimedia presentations, special audience-participation activities, and an International Fashion Show organized by Fashion Club leaders Wendy X. ’19 and Renee X. ’18. Elle R. ’18 will entertain us as emcee. We hope to have many nationalities and ethnic origins represented and we invite parents, families, and friends to join us as we celebrate the diversity and talents of the Foxcroft community.

Many thanks — in advance — to Global Cultures Club leaders Michelle A. ’17, Chloe X. ’17, Sumi L. ’18, and Pradyuta P. ’18 for their work, and to all the students and faculty who are performing, organizing, presenting, and/or cooking!
