Stuart Hall Wins Two Wintergreen Awards

Stuart Hall wins two awards for excellence in green building

Our new dormitory, Stuart Hall, received not one, but two Wintergreen Awards for Excellence in Green Building last Thursday from the U.S. Green Building Council Maryland Chapter! And Wednesday in Morning Meeting, another opportunity to be part of a project  by the award-winning team was announced.

Stuart Hall's first award, and the reason that Jean '15, Jasmine '16, Science Chair Maria Eagen, and Business Manager Deborah Anderson had traveled to Baltimore for the ninth annual Wintergreen Awards Dinner, was a project award for innovative design. The second prize was the People's Choice Award, selected by the event's attendees who reviewed displays of a number of projects.

Awards are always exciting but these are especially significant because of the competition Maryland has more LEED-certified buildings than any other state in the country; only the District of Columbia has more. Both of  Stuart Hall beat out scores of other nominztions because "the project incorporated great end-user engagement into design and green-education components, including students throughout the design and construction process."

"It was also affirming to see the predominence of women represented at the event," said Anderson, noting that the chapter president and other presenters at the dinner, held at Morgan State's Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies, were all women -- as was the Stuart Hall delegation. You go, girls!.

Wintergreen celebrates and promotes excellence in high performance, healthy design and building; environmental stewardship and community impact; and highlights the green building  achievements of the USGBC Maryland region.
