Foxcroft announces upcoming Centennial Celebration

A visit by "Miss Charlotte" highlights the fun-filled official launch

Foxcroft School, which is preparing for a very big party to celebrate a century of educating young women, Friday officially kicked off the buildup to the bash with a combination of old and new, serious and silly, much in keeping with the School’s inimitable style.
Dressed in a vintage white dress to match the one worn in a photo chosen to herald the coming festivities, Foxcroft’s founder Charlotte Haxall Noland (played by Associate Director of Admission Melissa Fairfield) regaled students, faculty, and trustees with a surprise appearance at an all-school meeting. She made the announcement by reading a Mad Lib completed by the School’s four Class Presidents, Emma ’13, Miranda ’14, Meredith ’15, and Charlotte '16. The Mad Lib provoked peals of laughter, and enthusiastic cheers as Miss Charlotte recounted Foxcroft’s first days.

A “Shout It Out! Foxcroft is turning 100!” poster was then unveiled by Development/Communications student leaders Hannah '14 and Tara '14, and miniature megaphones were distributed to all 200 people in the room.

The fun and creativity of the announcement foreshadow what, no doubt, will be a fun and creative 100th year at the girls’ boarding and day school founded in 1914. Foxcroft will kick it off on September 29, 2013, with a Day of Community Service. To honor Foxcroft’s tradition of “giving back” and extraordinary support, the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation will hold its annual Middleburg Walk on the School’s campus. Dozens of service projects are being planned across the country and around the world as well.

A variety of special events, ranging from “memory lunches” and dinners to speakers and exhibits, will continue through the year, both on campus and off, and the celebration will culminate April 25-27 with a festive weekend that is expected to bring hundreds of alumnae, friends, and family to Middleburg. Organizers are reaching out to the local community as well as friends of Foxcroft around the world to share in the celebration.
