Axie Diana receives Anne Kane McGuire Award for Distinguished Service

Foxcroft School’s Board of Trustees Friday bestowed its highest honor — The Anne Kane McGuire Distinguished Service Award — on Alix Clark (Axie) Diana, a 1960 graduate of the School and the outgoing Chair of the Board of Trustees.

At an all-school meeting that included the Trustees past and present and a number of surprise guests (Diana’s four children and six of her seven grandchildren), Beatty Page Cramer '66, Vice Chair of the Board, presented Diana with a framed citation to the sound of hearty applause.
The citation, which Cramer read, noted that Diana had served on the Foxcroft Alumnae Board for three years and the School’s Board of Trustees for 12 years — five of those as the Board Chair. It also referenced her work as Director of the Annual Fund and, later, of Development at Far Hills (NJ) Country Day School and as an EMT on the mobile intensive care unit with Morristown (NJ) Memorial Hospital.

“Her colleagues in every venue marvel at her commitment, her acceptance of responsibility, her passion, her wisdom, her grace, her generosity, her sense of humor, and her understanding heart,” reads the declaration.

It concludes, “For a lifetime of service in general, and to Foxcroft specifically, the Board of Trustees and Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer honor Alix Clark Diana by presenting to her Foxcroft’s highest honor, the Anne Kane McGuire Distinguished Service Award.”

A lunch in her honor held later featured moving tributes from her children, Nini, Kate, Alexander, and Chris, as well as personal appreciations by Leipheimer and fellow trustee Sally Downey, both previous recipients of the award.

Diana is the 25th recipient of the McGuire Award, which was established in 1984 in honor of a former trustee and Chairman of the Board who guided the School through some challenging years. In addition to Leipheimer and Downey, past recipients present included Nancy Redmond Manierre ’41 and Beth Lamond.
