Students Honor Black History Month with Banquet

Students from Foxcroft’s Black Student Union (BSU) and BIPOC Student Affinity Group organized a banquet for the entire campus community to celebrate and reflect on Black History Month. Throughout the month, students also shared educational and informational videos and presentations on topics such as the Black Diaspora during Morning Meetings.
BSU member Chayla G. ’25 shared, “During the Black History Month Banquet, members of Foxcroft’s Black Student Union recited the Peabody Award-winning words of Dr. Maya Angelou in her 'Still I Rise' poem. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this part of black history with the Foxcroft community. I enjoyed this because it made me feel so connected with everyone to share a part of my culture on that special evening. In addition to the reading of the poem, Anais P. ’26 performed a contemporary dance to the music of 'Stand Up' By Cynthia Erivo; Kyla P. ’26 and Lizema C. ’26 wrote and performed a spoken word piece titled 'The Joy of Tomorrow;' and the BSU and Chorale performed 'Lift Every Voice' which is referred to by many as ‘The Black National Anthem.’”

Many thanks to all the students and faculty who contributed to this month-long celebration. Special shoutouts go to the leadership of Black Student Union Co-Heads Marley F. ’24 and Emma L. ’24, Assistant Heads Madi W. ’25, Tashae' A. ’25, and Andy J. ’24 and the BIPOC Student Affinity Group, to faculty members Alexis Hall '12, Krystyna Martin, and Whittney Preston, and to Jill Attanasio and the entire Dining Hall staff.
