Sharing the Festive Spirit On-Campus and Around Town

The Foxcroft community happily spread holiday cheer last weekend. Beginning with reflections on community service and a campus-wide decorating party Friday evening and continuing through Santa’s entrance at the end of the traditional Christmas Pageant on Sunday, it was impossible not to be in the spirit of the season!
Friday evening, students met in the library to hear several speakers reflect on the importance of giving back before a holly jolly sing-a-long, culminating with an enthusiastic rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The group then broke off to tend to their festive assignments, from decorating the tree in the library or their dorm lounges to transforming the Dining Hall with twinkle lights and snowflakes representing each graduating class since Foxcroft’s founding. Not to be outdone by the students’ festive spirit, a merry band of faculty strolled from dorm to dorm caroling all the way!

On Saturday during “Christmas in Middleburg,” students lived the School’s value of service by volunteering at the Middleburg Community Charter School’s “Breakfast with Santa” and downtown as they helped children write their letters to Santa. In the parade, freshmen rode in the Foxcroft float — a magnificently decorated sleigh — singing carols and handing out candy along the parade route.

Foxcroft hosted the Middleburg community in Engelhard Gymnasium for the traditional Christmas Pageant on Sunday. The New Girls and our talented singers gave a beautiful performance that truly inspired the 250 guests in attendance. Seeing the gym once again full of parents, family members, alumnae, friends, and neighbors in the local community was wonderfully uplighting, too, as this was the first performance fully open to the public since 2019. For those who were unable to attend, you can view video of the pageant in its entirety (in two parts). From alumnae reminiscing about their roles in the pageant in days past to children awaiting the visit from Santa Claus, this tradition creates the merriest of memories.

The festivities continue through the end of the semester, with ornament and card-making workshops and more volunteer opportunities for eager elves to help Santa this weekend, Old Girl/New Girl hot cocoa on Monday, and our Lessons & Carols and Holiday Banquet on Wednesday evening. May the spirit of the season fill your heart with joy!
