The Middleburg Hunt to host 2022 Virginia Field Hunter Championship at Foxcroft
The Middleburg Hunt will host the 2022 Virginia Field Hunter Championship on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Foxcroft beginning at 11am. Foxcroft alumnae and families are welcome to attend.
This competition was started after World War II and is believed to have been held every year since 1950. This is not the first time Middleburg Hunt has hosted this competition at Foxcroft. In 2007, when Middleburg Hunt had won this prestigious award, Middleburg put on the Championship at Foxcroft. The winner each year hosts the following year's championship.

As is the tradition of this 70+ year old Championship, each Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA) recognized hunt from the Commonwealth of Virginia is allowed two representatives. They are selected by the Masters, who will certify that each chosen horse and rider combination has fairly hunted. To date, we have 18 entries from nine different hunts across Virginia.
The competition will consist of three phases: under saddle, mock hunt, and individual test. The mock hunt will be led by Middleburg Hunt subscriber George Kingsley and “Stalypso Dream,” last year’s champion. Riders will be dressed in formal hunting attire; safety headgear is required.
In addition, an optional class for the Best Turned Out will precede the competition. This class will not count toward the Championship.
The competitors and spectators have been invited to stay after the competition to enjoy a Middleburg Hunt tailgate and the camaraderie of fellow Virginia foxhunters.
