Former U.S. DOS Serbia Desk Officer Speaks with Global Studies Concentration Students

Last Thursday, Christine Hilt, former Serbia Desk Officer at the U.S. Department of State, was the first guest speaker of the year for the Global Studies Concentration Program.
Before her time as Serbia Desk Officer at the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Office of South Central European Affairs (EUR/SCE), Ms. Hilt served as a Political Officer domestically for the Western Balkans and in Vienna, Austria. She will soon join the Eurasia Group as a Senior Analyst on their Global Macro Geopolitics team. She has spent over a decade working in foreign policy, including in the private sector for consulting firms like Deloitte and Booz Allen Hamilton. A member of the Presidential Management Fellowship Class of 2017, Hilt earned an M.A. in International Affairs, focusing on Democracy & Global Governance, and a B.A. in International Studies, focusing on International Security, from American University.

Reflection from Sarah W. ’25:

Ms. Hilt was very professional and educated, and I loved hearing her story. She mentioned that from a young age, she knew she was interested in different views and perspectives, and she searched for internships and colleges with classes that would allow her to pursue her passion. When talking about her job, she mentioned needing to understand that your voice won't always win and being ok with that, which I believe is useful beyond the workspace, in not only the classroom but life as well.
