Exceptional Equestrians
It has been a busy season for our Exceptional Proficiency equestrians. We recently reported on the riders who train under Director of Riding Kate Worsham; in total, 13 talented riders (Virginia B. ’22, Caroline B. ’22, Cierra C. ’25, Molly C. ’23, Margaret F. ’23, Isa G. ’23, Fiona H. ’24, Sydney M. ’23, Wilhelmina M. ’23, Lucia M. R. ’25, Sofia M. R. ’23, Georgia R. ’22, and Telina T. ’24) use the EP program to show at a high level around the country. Among them, four-event riders traveled to Aiken, SC, for various competitions where they participated in the three phases of eventing — dressage, stadium jumping, and cross country jumping; eight Hunter Jumper riders competed at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL; and one additional Hunter Jumper competed at the World Equestrian Center In Ocala, FL.
In the Hunter Jumper ring, Virginia B. ’22 has had a truly exceptional year. Early in the 2022 WEF season Virginia and teammates Natalie D., Alex A., and Eva F. won the $25,0000 U25 Series team event. As the season continues, so do her accomplishments, including finishing as champion in the High Junior Jumpers with her new horse, Heldorado. In addition to her time in the ring, Virginia was able to participate in the 2022 USEF Horse Mastership Training Series, which provided her the opportunity to learn from Olympians and top-level vets and farriers.

Caroline B. ’22 competed in the Young Riders Team Championship in Tryon in her first CCI 1* in November and won the gold medal. She was selected for the Young Riders Team. The eventing competition season is just getting underway, and Caroline has plans for most weekends in the near future.
Cierra C. ’25 competed at WEF with Foxcroft in the .80m and the 1.0m Low Children’s Jumper division on a newly-imported horse. She wrapped up her final week with blue ribbons and two reserve championships.
Molly C. ’23 competed over the winter for a few weeks in Aiken. She has won numerous ribbons including two championships in the children’s division. She is working to qualify for the USEA Under 18 Eventing Squad.
Isa G. ’23 reported a sixth-place finish training division at the Carolina International Horse trial as the 2022 eventing competition season got underway in January.
Fiona H. ’24 competed over the winter months in Aiken, SC, at Training level. She recently placed second in a very competitive field at the Pine Top HT. In April, she moved up to the Modified level at the Stable View event and finished 3rd. Her next completion is at the Fair Hill International in MD.

She added the Low Children’s Jumper Division to her rides this year with strong placings in some very large classes.
Wilhelmina M. ’23, as shared previously, has been competing at WEF in the Children’s Jumpers Division over the winter. Competing in the Great Charity Challenge along with two other teammates she helped raise $45,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Wilhelmina also contributes her time to Just World International and Vinceremos Riding Center while in Florida.

Lucia M. R. ’25 and her team won 2nd place jumping 1.25 at the North American Youth Championship. She has been competing in Wellington at WEF in the Junior Jumper division with good ribbons at 1m and has plans to move up to the 1.10 and 1.20 speed classes before returning to school.
Sofia M. R. ’23 represented Mexico in the North American Youth Championship in August 2021. She has been competing at WEF with two horses in the Medium Juniors and Junior High classes with good placings in both divisions.
Georgia R. ’22 competed at WEF with Foxcroft. She was champion in week two and also gained several top-two finishes in the .90 Low Children’s Training Jumper division. As the only senior competing at WEF with Foxcroft this year, Georgia provided strong mentorship for her classmates.
Telina T. ’24 competed at WEF with Foxcroft on a newly-imported horse and gained good ribbons in the Low Junior Jumpers. She placed second twice in two very competitive classes and had some top finishes on a second horse that included two 10th place Classic finishes.
