Celebrating Global Connections

Monday afternoon’s delicious lunch featuring Hispanic cuisine kicked off a multicultural week of food and fun in honor of International Week. The meal brought together a variety of cultures with a menu that included arroz con pollo, a chicken dish enjoyed in many Spanish-speaking countries; tamales (meat and vegetarian) of Central American origin; elote or Mexican street corn; empanadas of Spanish origin; and for dessert … tres leches cake, a favorite in many Latin American countries! Like that meal, Foxcroft brings together a variety of cultures, and that is exactly what the Global Cultures Club celebrates during International Week.
So far this week, we’ve also been treated to a Mediterranean lunch with chicken shawarma (meat cut into thin slices), ghormeh sabzi (Iranian stew), Turkish carrots and lentils, kaku sabzi (a Persian frittata), and Greek spanakopita, as well as Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Global Cultures Club members have worked with a wonderfully supportive Meriwether Godsey staff to plan these authentic menus. In addition, parents Ann Thomas (Clare ’22) and Nathalie Mould (Cecelia ’22) delighted students and faculty with Japanese mochi cakes and German Haribo gummy candies at Tuesday’s Pop-Up Shop after Morning Meeting.

And there is still more to come! The week culminates tomorrow with Indian sweets provided by Maya Berry (Johanna ’23) and Afghan cuisine for lunch, followed by the evening’s Gala performances at 7pm and Bazaar at 8pm. The Gala, presented in FoxHound Auditorium and emceed by seniors Amelia F. and Clare T., will highlight singing, dancing, and instrumental performances, while the Bazaar will fill the first floor of Schoolhouse with a variety of activities.

Our community's collective appreciation goes out to Global Cultures Club Heads Chelsie E. ’22 and Elizabeth S. ’22 and Assistant Heads Lexi H. ’23 and Mimi W. ’24, along with International Ambassadors Club Head Ella S-C. ’22 for working tirelessly to organize the week's activities, Gala, and Bazaar.

Families are welcome to attend. RSVP to communications@foxcroft.org if you haven’t already!
