Margaret Kepley Shares Her Fulbright Program and Peace Corps Experiences with Global Studies Students

By Lexi H. ’23, Global Studies Concentration student

On Tuesday afternoon Margaret Kepley, our second Global Studies Presents Speaker, shared stories and reflections about her life and work. She shared experiences from her time teaching in Slovakia through the Fulbright Program, teaching in Uganda through the Peace Corps, and her experiences living in Norway during high school.
Ms. Kepley began the session by splitting us up into breakout rooms to discuss two positives and negatives of a community that we all had in common; both groups chose Foxcroft. After the groups shared, Ms. Kepley shared positive and negative aspects of her community in Norway. Throughout her talk, Ms. Kepley touched on the positive and negative aspects of each community that she worked and lived in and ways that she was able to turn those negatives into positives. At the end of her talk, she encouraged us to find ways to turn the negatives that we shared into positives as well.

Ms. Kepley ended her talk with a Q&A, which gave us the opportunity to learn more about how she got involved with these programs and her experiences living abroad. Ms. Kepley’s talk gave us insight into what it is like to live and work internationally, as well as being involved in the Fulbright Program and the Peace Corps.
