Students Excited to be Out Serving the Community Again!

From Experiential Learning and Student Life Coordinator Beth O’Quinn

Our students have been eagerly participating in lots of service-learning opportunities this fall! Several set out in canoes recently on nearby Goose Creek to help with the Goose Creek Association’s annual clean-up efforts. Read a reflection on this event by Chelsie E. ’22, an enthusiastic member of the clean-up team.
Foxcroft Service Organization head Avani B. ’22 led a group of students in harvesting fresh veggies and herbs from the Foxcroft garden to be shared with the Seven Loaves Food Bank in Middleburg. Garden work will continue as we aim to clean things up after the summer growing season and prepare the garden for a winter rest.

This week kicked off our continued partnership with Sprout Riding Center and Education Center in Aldie, VA. Inspired by a visit from Sprout Director Brooke Waldron and her mini horse Lucky, a new group of students completed training over the weekend, learning the skills needed to assist with the weekly lesson program. Our partnership with Sprout allows students to be part of a very dynamic and impactful program offering equine-assisted activities and therapies to individuals seeking special opportunities for growth.

We are proud of the work our students are doing and look forward to seeing what other experiential learning opportunities they will lean into next!
