Foxcroft Loses a Barnburner in Home Opener

Foxcroft had a heartbreaking loss Friday night against Tandem Friends, but the varsity squad showed its continued growth as a team. They came out flat in the opening set, falling behind by as much as 2-10, but they regained their footing and pushed the final set score to 19-25. Foxcroft finally clicked in second set, powered by the serves of Kat W. '23, who picked up eight points, including four aces. The third set ended the same as the second, with Foxcroft winning 25-23. Foxcroft was behind 19-22, but Kat W. once again took control with her powerful serves and propelled the team to a set win. In. the fourth set, Foxcroft spotted Tandem seven early points with a score of 4-11; they rallied once again to make the final score of the set 18-25. In the fifth and final set, Foxcroft lost the toss and had to receive, and they fell behind 2-9. Maya M. Junior Ashleigh H. was excellent in the back court, rescuing many balls that would have been points. She also had several clutch serves in high-pressure situations. Senior captain Adair S. returned in her first match since the opener against St. James, and she performed well in the outside hitter position, and she earned nine service points, including three aces. In addition to her phenomenal game in serves, Kat W. had a few thunderous blocks against Tandem.
