Riding Program Welcomes 50 New and Returning Riders

From Kate Worsham, Director of Riding

The riding program was so happy to welcome our returning riders and meet our new girls! It has been fun reconnecting with the 26 riders from past years and getting to know the 24 new riders as lessons get underway this week. As always, our riders are versatile athletes, with 24 students playing another sport in addition to riding.
A group of eight returning riders has already participated in a competition this past Saturday, September 4, to get the school year started. They attended the final show of the Morven Summer Series and did an excellent job in both the hunter and the jumper rings. Highlights included the successful debut of a handful of new partnerships as well as move-ups for some established pairings. Selected results are as follows:
  • Isabelle M. ’23 & Dapper Dan – 2nd in Schooling Htrs; 4th & 5th in 3' Working Htrs
  • Georgia R. ’22 & Corrado – 4th in both .80m
  • Cecilia M. ’22 & Pourdire – 1st in .85m; 2nd in .90m

Special congratulations to Irene B. ’24 for earning the Morven Summer Series Championship on Pablo in the 1.0m Children's Jumper division.

The fall calendar will provide many more opportunities for the girls to shine both at home, in the hunt field, and at local and rated competitions.
  • Next up for the jumper riders is the Piedmont Jumper Classic held in Upperville in late September.
  • The team equitation riders will compete at a variety of Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) shows this fall, including one hosted by Foxcroft on October 16.
October is jam-packed with horse show opportunities for riders at a variety of levels and in the hunter, jumper, and equitation rings at venues in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. To stay on top of our Riding schedule and see highlights in the Twitter feed, check out the Riding section of Foxcroft's website.
