Seeing is Believing: Why the Inauguration of the First Woman Vice President Matters

In her “From the Head’s Desk” blog, Cathy McGehee shares her thoughts on the historic importance of witnessing the inauguration of the first woman ever to be elected Vice President of the United States.
She writes:

“Foxcroft School’s mission and programs empower girls to lead and serve their communities, their nation, and their world. Our mission is in part why I want to honor the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris as not only a significant moment in history but also a powerful inspiration. My message is not partisan. Foxcroft does not promote or endorse political candidates or parties. My message is a celebration of this historic moment because it matters for our students and for girls around our nation and the world that a woman is Vice President of the United States.

Harris breaks an important glass ceiling today as she becomes the first female Vice President of the United States. She also breaks racial barriers as the first Black person and the first South Asian American to hold the second-highest office in our nation."
