Foxcroft Math Team Gets Ready for February Competition

By Xinyi S. ’22

The MAA’s American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) program was designed to develop advanced problem-solving skills and analytical thinking by preparing and attending the annual competition. This will be the second year that a Foxcroft team participates in the competition, which takes place on February 10, 2021. The AMC 10 (covers high school math curriculum up to 10 grade) and AMC 12 (covers entire high school math curriculum) competitions are each 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations. Due to the pandemic, this year’s competition will be online and students on campus will be taking it in a proctored environment.
The team provides all participants the competition problems and answers from the past years. Based on last year’s experience, we will share additional resources on questions and topics to deepen our understandings. The knowledge students gain will prepare them for various science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career paths. Through the preparation, students will also develop better time-management skills, problem-solving skills, and analytical thinking, which will be crucial as they move on to further education. We are still accepting participants for this year's competitions, so email me if you are interested!

There were five participants last year: Rebecca C. ’23, Caelyn L. ’23, Lynn Z. ’23, Scarlett D. ’21, and me. As the organizer, I was so proud of our performance last year. This year, we have some new members joining to compete. Seven members of the Foxcroft team are currently Irene B. ’24, Heidi D. ’23, Avery H. ’23, London H. ’23, Caelyn L. ’23, Lynn Z. ’23, and me. I am so excited for this year's competition.

Wish every one of us good luck!
