Olivia W. ’23 Speaks During Women and Politics Forum

On December 10, sophomore Olivia W. participated in an online session of the Women and Politics Forum, where she and other students who took part in the Empowering Female Voices (EFV) program had the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions about the role of women in politics, and learn how more women can become part of the political process.
Olivia was recommended for this honor by History teacher Erika Page, who had this to say following the session: “I just heard Olivia speak on the same panel as some of the most accomplished women in the country. I've never had Olivia in class, but she is a Foxcroft student, so I knew she'd do very well. She was wonderful! She fit in perfectly with that group of accomplished women.”

During the session, the girls were able to interact with an impressive group of women, including members of former presidential administrations like Amber Macdonald, who was part of President Obama's communications team. Macdonald has been with Dr. Jill Biden for three years and will be back in the White House next month.

“Participating in the forum was exciting and enhancing,” offered Olivia. “There were so many powerful and influential women present who have had incredible experiences. I am fortunate to be able to reflect on my experience with the EFV program to them. I was proud to represent Foxcroft and briefly share my passion as an advocate for mental health awareness!”

What a phenomenal way for young women to explore a future in politics and advocacy!

This inaugural Empowering Female Voices program was so successful that Close Up, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS), and the Hockaday Institute for Social Impact will be hosting “Empowering Female Voices: President’s First 100 Days,” which kicks off the week of the inauguration, with sessions every Monday and Thursday, Jan. 25 - Feb. 11, 2021, from 8-9:15pm EST. Foxcroft is currently pulling together a cohort of students to participate. Interested students can apply here.
