Empowering Female Voices Program Update

By Hays T. ’21

Last week during the Close Up Empowering Female Voices program we learned about the criminal justice system. Before we met to deliberate, we read over possible policies including defunding the police, the Camden model, banning no-knock warrants, and more. After reading these different policies and forming our own opinions, we were able to deliberate with our groups (consisting of around 10 girls) to discuss what policy we thought was the best.
I have really enjoyed diving deeper into these topics and learning more. In addition, I wanted to share what a member from another school said. She explained to the group how much these meetings meant to her. She told us that she gets shut down regularly when she tries to share her ideas at her own co-ed school. It is easy to forget that not everyone has the same opportunities that we share in our environment here at Foxcroft. We are so lucky to be a part of such a supportive community.
