Spanish IV Learns About the History of Foxcroft

As their final project, the Spanish IV class decided to learn about the history of Foxcroft focusing on the following topics: Rules, Uniforms, Drill Practice, Sports, Academics, The Dorm, and Interesting Facts. After researching the topics, the class created a slideshow with English and Spanish translations.
Reflections from the students:

“Being able to look back through the Foxcroft archives, I feel more connected to the School. From uniforms to academics to dorm life, Foxcroft’s evolution has been very impressive. It was very interesting to look through old journals, letters, pictures, and handbooks. I now have a better understanding of how Foxcroft’s traditions were started and the extent to which they have changed through the years.” - Chloe M. ’21

“At the beginning of the year, we learned about global challenges, beauty, and esthetics and for our final theme, we learned about community. As our final project, we created a presentation of the information we found in weeks of going through the School’s archives. We split the archives into three sections for each of us to focus on – 1914 to 1940, 1941 to 1965, and 1966 to the present day. I was interested to read and see how the School has evolved from drill practice and uniforms to dress codes and sleeping porches. And yet, throughout all of the years, Miss Charlotte’s charisma and motto for the School has still remained.” - Louise W. ’20

“I really enjoyed learning about the history of Foxcroft. Surprisingly, I did not know that Foxcroft was so entrenched in the military lifestyle. I do not think that life is for me; however, the girls during that time seemed to enjoy the structured schedule and tradition that came with it. The most interesting part for me was a letter by a Foxcroft student written to her parents in 1951. A student had been chased by a fox and was writing to her parents about the situation. This project brought me closer to Foxcroft and to cherish it even more than I already do. It also reminded me that I left my own mark on Foxcroft that people will look at in the future.” - Elena B. ’20
