Foxcroft Girls Hold On to the Value of Service

From Experiential Learning & Service Learning Coordinator Beth O’Quinn

Although our ability to physically get out into the community has been curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, Foxcroft girls have continued to reach out to our neighbors with helping hands in new and creative ways.
In a recent Parents’ Newsletter, we shared the story of London H. ’23 and her horses bringing joy to the residents of a nearby nursing home. Our Banneker Buddies tutors are finding new ways to stay connected to the children at Banneker Elementary by creating and sharing videos of themselves reading children's books and singing songs for the students they typically work with each week. It’s a nice reminder to the youngsters that we are still thinking of them!

Other students have begun a pen pal program with the residents of Spring Arbor Assisted Living, writing heartwarming letters to be sent through the mail each week. Several more students joined in on Zoom to call a bingo game for the residents there as well. The girls were a welcome surprise for the players as they called the numbers and told a few jokes along the way. Several of the students still living on campus created a cheerful thank-you sign to show their appreciation for the hard-working delivery people who bring packages each day.

We are so proud of all the many ways our girls are staying connected through service to others and working to brighten everyone's spirits during this challenging time. Thank you, girls!
