Foxes Take the Cup for Second Year in a Row!

Once again blue and white ruled the court at the Athletic/Student Center today when Foxcroft’s oldest and most beloved tradition, Fox/Hound Basketball, was played with all the enthusiasm, pageantry, and intense competition we have come to expect and enjoy.
The Foxes not only defeated the Hounds, 34-12, in Big Game to claim the coveted Cup for the second year in a row, but they also won Middle Game, 12-10, while the Hounds played to a 12-8 win in Little Game.

On Friday, Puppy Team took an early lead in Little Game, and while the Cubs stayed competitive, they were never able to move into the lead. Middle Game saw a much more vigorous back and forth, with both sides trading baskets throughout the game, but the Foxes took the final lead as the clock wound down.

Saturday’s Big Game started with the Hounds keeping it close, allowing the Foxes only three baskets for a 6-4 lead at the end of the first period. After that, though, it was all Foxes as they took a commanding lead in the second period, ending the first half with a score of 22-5. Mounting a strong defense in the second half to slow the Fox scoring, the Hounds battled relentlessly, but even a three-pointer by Lucy M. ’23 at the final buzzer couldn’t bring them the lead.

When the last seconds finally ticked away, Leipheimer Gymnasium — which had been rocking all morning with the deafening drums and cheers of both teams and the crowd of students, faculty, alumnae, and parents all decked out in their colors — erupted just a little bit louder with the Foxes taking the Cup.

Both sides played their hearts out and the true spirit of the Fox/Hound tradition — true friends through and to the end — came to the fore as there were hugs and cheers for teammates and rivals alike and another round of thunderous cheers before students and faculty headed off to Spring Break.

Thank you to all who came out to support their team and enjoy this treasured tradition!
