Vox Media Reporter Alex Ward Speaks to Global Studies Students

by Hayden E. ’21

Last week, Global Studies students had the opportunity to hear a special speaker, Alex Ward from Vox Media. He is not only a reporter but also the son of Senora Sánchez, one of Foxcroft's Spanish teachers. In addition to covering international security and defense issues, he also hosts a podcast.
Mr. Ward talked to us about reporting and how imperative it is for our world. Everything responsible reporters do is so people can be in the know. They do not write "fake news." Vox news has to make sure they have at least two sources before writing a piece. He also talked about how it is impossible not to read a biased article. Even when reporters try not to show their opinions, they still come through a little bit.

Then he explained the best platforms to get our news. He was very knowledgeable about news and reporting and could answer all our questions. I left the talk feeling very educated about news and decided to get a subscription to The New York Times.
