Alumnae Brave the Cold to Cheer Teams at Fox/Hound Field Hockey!

Prior to Thanksgiving break, an enthusiastic crowd braved the chilly weather at FoxHound Field to cheer on the Foxes and the Hounds in a beloved tradition that includes a little bit of pomp and spectacle and a lot of friendly rivalry.
Though the cheering was loud and proud on both sides and both teams played with great heart and skill, Captains Emma N. ’21 and Betsy A. ’21 led the Foxes to a 3-0 Big Game victory, with two goals from Olivia D. ’20 and one from Isabelle M. ’23. Congratulations, Foxes!

The day’s festivities had started earlier when the Middleburg Hunt was welcomed at Covert with hot cider and biscuits before setting off. New Girl Runnings followed, ending in a tie when freshmen Molly C. (Hound) and Emma W. (Fox) touched the top of the gazebo at the same time! Shortly after that, the Hounds triumphed in Little Game with a 3-1 win.

When the final whistle blew at Big Game, the Foxes rushed the field to celebrate their victory but then gathered with the Hounds at midfield to sing and celebrate one another as "true friends ’til the end."

For more than a century the tradition of Fox/Hound has been an integral and cherished part of Foxcroft, as evidenced by the number of students, parents, alumnae, and parents of alumnae who came to cheer dressed in their team colors and donning their team buttons.

Thank you to all who came out to cheer and enjoy this treasured tradition!
